Topped or a scheduler like Buffer or Postiz?

A scheduler posts what you already made, to more networks, for less. Topped makes the posts - often from a real post that already worked - and publishes them to TikTok, Instagram and YouTube Shorts. If you already have the videos, buy a scheduler.

Buffer and Postiz are schedulers: you bring a video or a set of images, write or draft a caption, pick the networks and a time, and they post it. Both reach far more networks than Topped, both give you AI help with the words, and both now let AI agents schedule posts through an MCP server. Buffer is simple, priced per channel and has a free plan. Postiz is open source, can be hosted yourself, and also generates images and videos.

Topped does a different job. It reads your App Store listing or website, proposes slideshows, walls of text and demo videos for your app - many of them built on real posts our team hand-picked, with that post and the number it got on the card - and publishes the ones you approve to your own TikTok, Instagram and YouTube accounts.

So the real question is whether your bottleneck is making the posts or getting them out. If you already make a video a day, a scheduler is the cheaper, broader tool. If you sit down to post and do not know what to make, a scheduler has nothing to schedule.

Buffer's and Postiz's figures come from their pricing pages and help centers. Buffer prices per channel; Postiz per plan. Prices move; check theirs before you decide.

What actually differs

A scheduler needs something to schedule

Buffer and Postiz are excellent at the last step: one file, many networks, the right time. Both schedule what you provide, and Postiz can also generate images and videos from a prompt. For most indie app founders the hard part is the step before - deciding what to post, then making it look like something people stop for. That is the step Topped does, which is why it costs more than a scheduler and posts to fewer places.

Starting from what already worked

A scheduler's AI helps you write about your own idea. Topped starts many drafts from real posts our team hand-picked because they already did well for apps like yours, and shows you that post and the number it got on the card before you approve anything. The rest are written around a moment in your users' day.

Both sides now talk to AI agents

Buffer and Postiz each run an MCP server, so Claude, ChatGPT or a coding agent can create and schedule posts through them; Postiz's can also make images and videos. Topped's MCP server, CLI and skill go a step further back: an agent can ask Topped for new posts about your app, show them to you in the chat, and publish the ones you approve.

Open source matters to some founders

Postiz is AGPL-licensed and can be hosted on your own server with Docker, though its own pricing page calls self-hosting a secondary option and ships agent features to the hosted version first. Topped and Buffer are hosted only.

Where each product is the better buy

Where Buffer and Postiz wins

  • You already make your own videos. Then the job left is posting, and a scheduler does it for less and to more networks.
  • You post to LinkedIn, X, Facebook, Threads or Pinterest as well. Topped publishes to TikTok, Instagram and YouTube Shorts only.
  • You want the cheapest possible start. Buffer is free for three channels and a few dollars per channel after that.
  • You work as a team. Both offer unlimited members on their team plans, and Buffer has approval steps; Topped is one person per account.
  • You want to host it yourself, or post long YouTube videos. Postiz does both.

What Topped doesn’t do

  • We do not post to networks beyond TikTok, Instagram and YouTube Shorts.
  • We do not post long-form YouTube videos.
  • We do not offer team seats or approval steps between teammates.
  • We cannot be self-hosted.
  • We do not attribute installs to individual posts.
